You see, architectural domes have been around for centuries – that’s a long time.  And for centuries, ceiling domes have been associated with splendor.  From the corbel domes of the ancient Middle East to the umbrella dome of St. Peter’s Basilca in Rome: domes represent architectural grandeur as they dramatically take up most of a ceiling’s space, regardless of the size – making the void visually stunning.  I bet you didn’t know you were going to get a little architectural history lesson, right?

Don’t Be Fooled: Ceiling Domes Are Strong, Not Weak

When my kid first saw a ceiling dome, she was impressed that it didn’t fall or collapse.  My daughter said, “Daddy, how come the upside down bowl doesn’t fall down?” and I explained that ceiling domes are actually strong, not weak, because ceiling domes are really just bunch of arches put together to make a dome shape.  I thought she was so smart to see the upside down bowl in the dome shape – she’s a chip off the ole block!  He-he-ha, I’m just kidding (unless of course you thought that was funny).  Over centuries architects have been perfecting ways to create ceiling domes: from solid stone domes like the Roman Pantheon to the beautiful drywall dome in my dining room – built by yours truly.  You see people used to and still think installing a ceiling dome is difficult and intimidating – until now, so ask yourself, “Why not get fancy?”

Here’s the best part! You don’t have to be a PRO. We’ve designed our ceiling domes to be DIY friendly. My brother and I are average DIYers, and we put the below Universal Dome Kit in his entry. As you can see, no demolition. We simply framed it in over the drywall and below his ceiling.
